Colonial Cleaners has state-of-the-art technology and equipment to handle both dry cleaning and wet cleaning depending on the fabric, the manufacturer's care label, and the customer's preference.

We are participating in a national environmental program called "EnviroSafe™," which is designed to reduce waste in the dry cleaning industry through new cleaning techniques and recycling practices. It uses "wet cleaning" techniques to greatly reduce the need for dry cleaning solvents on as many garments as possible. The multi-process system uses wet cleaning techniques on fabrics that are typically dry-cleaned by most cleaners -- cottons, linens, polyesters, rayons and some silks.

First, each garment is carefully color-tested. If it qualifies for the natural approach, it is inspected for stains and carefully pre-spotted; the clothing is then processed with specially formulated organic soaps and professionally steam-pressed.

Of course, many garments cannot be processed through the EnviroSafe™ system. Wool garments such as suits and coats and some silks and other perishable garments must be cleaned the traditional way in order to meet the standards of Colonial Cleaners and its customers.

Colonial Cleaners also encourages customers to return their hangers for reuse. In addition to recycling polyethylene bags, the store also uses recycled paper and plastic products when available.

Cleaning leather, suede and fur is a complex process. While the process is similar to dry cleaning, it's not the same, risking poor results and damage to skins. Since only the best will do for our customers, we use a Rhode Island company that specializes in cleaning fur and leather with an outstanding reputation in its field. Remember it's helpful to bring in any care information that came with the garment. Be sure to point out any stains, since stains that are old and set cannot always be removed safely. And, have all your matching pieces cleaned at the same time.

State of the art equipment enables Colonial Cleaners to accept many household items that others turn away, such as tablecloths and linens, draperies, rugs of any size and bedding, including down comforters, electric blankets, afghans and sleeping bags. Colonial will even take your expensive down pillows, clean, sterilize and fluff the feathers and return them to you in a new slip cover. The slip cover is free of charge.

After the big day, count on Colonial to clean and preserve your gown to insure it as a keepsake or for future generations or friends. Our wedding gown specialist carefully examines every gown for any stains. After careful, gentle cleaning, the bodice is stuffed with acid-free tissue paper to avoid wrinkles and absorb moisture. Your gown will then be sealed in a museum quality acid-free box that controls humidity and prevents oxidation or yellowing that often develops with age. Headpieces, veils, shoes, garter, bouquet, ring pillow, invitation, napkin and other bridal accessories can be preserved separately.

Why worry about having enough closet space? We have on-premise, temperature-controlled rooms dedicated exclusively to storing your winter, spring, summer or fall wardrobes. We'll clean, moth-proof, and press your clothes. Storage is free. You can drop your garments off or pick them up at your convenience. Note: we do charge a storage fee for furs.
